Ibm Thinkpad fan problem

Hi I have an Ibm Thinkpad T22 2647 my problem is when it first boots up the fan comes on then after about ten seconds the fan goes off and the laptop overheats I replaced the fan and it still has the same problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Do you physically see the FAN go off or does it just slow down as a tortoise?

To help with the heating replace the thermal paste - this will most certainly help.

Hi thank you for your answer! It shuts off then won't come back on.

It no longer comes back on?
Have you tried with only the battery? Try with the power adapter too? Then just try with the power adapter i.e. remove the battery.
If none work above, try:

Removing ALL but leave ONE RAM module in one of the RAM slots? If you find it does power up, use the SAME working module and try it on the other slots. If they works all the same try with the next ram module, eventually you might find one that is faulty. Replace it.

Do you have the model number? It would help greatly.

What is a Rom slot? The Computer is a Ibm thinkpad t22 2647 windows 98 second edition intel pentium III. Type 2647-PF1 S/N 78- 0DDBH 08/01. It is running the latest version of ubuntu. I have also noticed the fan will stay on for the first step but when it clicks to go to the next step this is when it shuts off.
