Will Phenom II x4 970 work on ASUS Motherboard if a Phenom II x4 965 is listed?

I have an ASUS M3A78-CM Motherboard with a Phenom II x4 940 CPU. Want to re-use the CPU in another board that I know it will work in and upgrade to as fast as a CPU I can buy NEW for this board. ASUS lists the 965 as compatible in that board, but cant find it new in stock with any of my favorite sellers. What is the chance a 970 will work, even though it is not listed? They are both 125 watt CPU's and the board is rated for 140 watt CPU support. Is it worth taking a chance? I plan on using the most current BIOS. Thanks in advance, Chris.

It really isn't an upgrade unless you are not overclocking. It "might" work.

Thanks. I figured that it would be barely noticeable, but I figure getting rid of the Athlon 64 x2 4800+ on the other computer will be a plus!

Use ur current cpu by o.c.in
It wud be not a difference
If u wnna upgrade get a new board and 6300
