Create a Dos command in Windows 7

I would like to create a dos file to automatically copy, or backup, a data folder to an external hard drive daily without overwriting the previous copy or backup. Ideally the folder it would be copied to would have the current date as the folder name. I am running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. Does anyone have a solution to my inquiry? I do have some knowledge of DOS from the 1980's so it's a little bit rusty. Please and Thank You!
