Hi guys,

So, I've been planning on taking my £260 - £300 PC component fund and adding to it until the 9970 drops and picking one of those up. The recent price drops on last years GPUs has me sorely tempted, though.

Basically, I'm just wondering if you guys think it's better to pick up an older, reduced card or wait for AMD to come out with their 9xxx series. And if you do think it's worth grabbing an older card, which one? 670, 670 4gb, 680, 7950, 7970?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Edit: A couple of links to cards I was considering -

7970 - http://bit.ly/19uprRT

670 - http://bit.ly/JJB8Vg

670 4gb - http://bit.ly/16YQVwt

680 - http://amzn.to/18wiYkK

P.S. - I game at 1920 x 1080.

I wouldn't be getting a GTX 670, and neither a 680. My pick would go on a GTX 760 or a GTX 770 right now, which are essentially comparable to 670/680.

Definitely not the 670 or 680. The 770 is cheaper than the 680 and it performs slightly better. That's why I would recommend it. You could also pick up a 7970, which would be cheaper, here in the US at least. It also depends on how much you value free games, since AMD just started the Never Settle Reloaded Bundle back up again. (It's slightly different than before, though.)

OK, thanks. I admit, I hadn't really considered the 760. It seems competitive.

The problem is that the 670 is actually cheaper at the moment, and if they're on par in terms of performance, surely it's the better option?

Also, the 7970 is £40 - £60 cheaper than a 770 at present and they seem to be roughly equivalent too. It also has an extra gig of memory over the 770, which isn't useful to me right now, but may be in the future.

I wouldn't necessarily call the 7970 equivalent to the 770. I think a 7970 GHz Edition would be a closer opponent.

Thanks for the replies. I've more or less ruled out the 600s now. It's between a 770, a 7970 or saving my money and waiting to see what AMD brings with the 9000 series. The 7970 is significantly cheaper here in the UK, so if I do decide to stay a gen behind, I'll most likely be picking up one of those.

I think I'm gonna wait and see though, unless there's another price dive on the 7970.

Thanks for the help.
