Your harddrive is damaged... Try to get a hard disk scan. On windows xP, go to cmd, and type in CHKDSK /R /F
Answer Y to schedule a scan on next boot

Did you ever resolve this? I have built 3 PC's and on 2 of them I experience the same problem (3rd PC is not being used yet).

ASUS M5A97 R2.0 Motherboard
AMD CPU 4.0Ghz (8core)
8GB Ram
Tried 2 Different Hard Drives (1TB Seagate Hybrid, WD 1TB Blue) - Blamed Hybrid
ASUS GT-630 2GB Video Card

These are fresh built and loaded with Windows 7 Pro 64bit (All Service Packs). In the process of checking driver version and comparing to Asus's website

specs:
Asus m5a97 le r2.0
AMD fx-4100
G.skill 1866
Kingston ssd 120gb
Seagate 1tb and wd 500gb hdd's

I have the same kind of problem with this motherboard hanging/freezing. It seems it has something to do with usb 3.0 driver because it only happens when usb 3.0 hdd is connected (wd my passport, works fine with other computers).
