Sometimes my computer powers up but doesn't boot?

Only very occasionally, my computer powers on but it doesn't boot up. It is usually fixed by simply leaving the computer turned off for a week, but it is pretty annoying.

Only very occasionally, my computer powers on but it doesn't boot up. It is usually fixed by simply leaving the computer turned off for a week, but it is pretty annoying.

Now that doesn't look like a very convenient solution. Does it hang before the boot even begins? Is it before the OS starts loading?

If it doesn't even start booting (no image, no keyboard lights flashing), you probably have an issue with either your motherboard or RAM. I'd start troubleshooting by using only 1 RAM stick at a time, to try and pinpoint a defective one (if that is the case).

If it hangs just prior to OS loading, peripherals may cause it too. Try removing all storage devices and peripherals, leave only the keyboard, mouse and monitor. If it works, re-connect one at a time to try and pinpoint the issue.
