Is it dead? :o

Was used in QNAT NAS server, anyone knows whats the problem / knows the sound? Is it possible to recover data?

The hard drive is not detected by the bios, I think because it fails to start...

If the drive spins up, or attempts to spin up, then the PCB is most probably OK.

The drive has its own internal POST. This tests the majority of the electronic componentry. If any part fails, then the drive doesn't spin up. If a drive spins up but then fails to come ready and identify itself to BIOS, then the most probable fault is an inability to read the firmware modules in the System Area on the platters. This can sometimes be due to a damaged or corrupted module, or a bad head.

But don't take my word for it. Go to HDD Guru. See what the professionals say. :-)

I know this thread is old but I have the same drive and mine failed like yours so its the circuit board you have to buy a new one good thing is theres 99% chance that this will fix the issue but if it doesn't its 50 dollars down the drain so your choice

Baumey, can you confirm that you had the same sound and it was fixed with a circuit board? I recently had the same drive fail and am currently shopping for data recovery options. .

Thanks,
