SB6141 Modem works on 1000mbit, but not 100mbit overnight. Never unplug your modem for long periods of time?

Sorry for the cryptic title. This is a weird problem that presented itself overnight. I have an SB6141 cable modem. If you have one, you might notice how BRIGHT the LED's are. Well, I have the modem in my bedroom and it affects my sleep it is so bright. So, a few nights ago I unplugged it for the night. Slept great by the way.

Anyway, next day, my internet was down. Did all the normal things like unplugging/plugging in modem, router, called Cox - no outage etc. So I direct wired the modem to my PC - no internet. Direct wired to my work laptop - it worked! Tried my wife's laptop - no internet. So, the devices that will NOT work are 100mbit devices, including my router (Netgear WNDR3300 - yes old). My laptop is 1000mbit and it works fine. Weird huh? All this has been working for months prior to me shutting it down overnight.

Cox reprovisioned my modem and is seeing "red", which according to them my modem is bad. They said to NEVER leave your modem as this can flake things out.

So, I really don't want to have to RMA the modem but it seems like I will have to. I just can't imagine my unplugging it over night did this.

Any insight?

You should be able to unplug your modem for a year and plug it back in and not have any issues. If Cox is seeing "red" they are probably referring to your signal levels which most likely due to a line issue rather than a modem issue.

Have you had any issues before now?

Abolutely no issues until now. I've been swapping computers around, testing different lines into the house etc. Somehow, now one of my 100mbit laptops can connect directly to the modem. This is a really flaky, weird problem. I still suspect the modem.

Your modem may have indeed failed, but not because you unplugged it. A few months ago a bad storm knocked power out in my neighborhood for 24 hours. I had no issues. Last year a hurricane knocked the power out at my ex's place for almost a week, She had no problems once power was restored.
