Ethernet Cable Problems

I recently received a new modem from at&t. Instead of them just connecting my computer with an ethernet cable they used a d-link wireless adapter. I've been trying to reconnect my ethernet cable to hopefully boost my downloading speed but everytime i plug in the ethernet cable my computer restarts after about 5 minutes.

I'm running windows 7, on a M5A78L-M LX PLUS MOBO, 4 gb of ram, a 5502 PSU, AMD Phenom II X6 1045T Thuban 2.7GHz Socket AM3 95W Six-Core Desktop Processor, and a SAPPHIRE HD 7770 GHz Edition 1GB GDDR5 GPU.

Any help as to why this is happening would be greatly appreciated.

Check your mobo website and make sure you have the latest LAN/Ethernet adapter driver for your mobo - also check the BIOS is up to date

How exactly do i install the drivers?

Download, unzip if needed and just double click on the executable

It says the drivers are up to date.

Then you are good with that driver

I switched the setting to bsod instead of restart and i got this. DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

I also uninstalled all other drivers and reinstalled them. It still doesnt work.
