Layer 2(or 3) 48 Port Switches on Ebay

I need to upgrade from our 8 port switch at the house to something with at least 16 ports or more. I was hoping to find a deal on Ebay and I did,......I think. I'm coming across these used Layer 3 48 port managed gigabit switches for under $75. I think I'm missing something, they all say they work just fine but would they work in my unmanaged environment?

There must be a catch.

It depends on the brand of the switch but the vast majority if they are at default factory settings run exactly like a unmanged layer 2 switch.

Some switches do though by default disable all the ports so it depends. Worst case would be you would have to do some minimal configuration to make them work like you want.

It is not uncommon to find used commercial equipment for sale. The only down side of using this you may have learn a little about the devices to use them.
