Building first gaming rig - opinions and any advice?

Just put this together for when I go to university. Wondering if everything's compatible with each other etc? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

CPU: Core i5 3550 socket 1155
GPU: MSI HD 7790 OC 2GB
MoBo: Asus P8Z77-V LX Socket 1155
PSU: CoolerMaster Elite 500w
RAM: Crucial 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600Mhz
Case: CoolerMaster K380
HDD: Seagate 1TB Barracuda 7200rpm HDD

Do not get that psu, cooler master does not make good psu, use this one instead.

Was just one that came with the case in a bundle sort of thing... Do you have a case that you can recommend which is cheap and will fit my components in?

The more i look at your build, the less i like it. Try going for a fx-8350 and a gigabyte ga-990fxa-ud3 instead.
For a case i can recommend this, more so if you get the ga-990fxa-ud3 since your motherboard does not have a usb 3.0 header
