I recently bought a storage locker and in side one of the "gems" was a Dell Xps 710. I had to buy a power cord to test it out and unfortunately it didn't work. All I got was an orange light on the motherboard and some buzzing then dead. I couldn't tell what fan had started up but I didn't last past 2 seconds.
My question is what can be salvaged? It does have twin GeForce 8800 gts 512 video cards and about 3TB in HD. I did a few quick searches and the power supply and MOBO are usually the first to go. I want to possibly build a gaming rig with as little as possible.
I know the cards are outdated but I really dont want to spend much.

you can salvage the ram, the cpu, the hard drives, the dvd drives, the video cards too. the computer is a good puter but sounds like the motherboard could be dead. only way to know is to see if it works with another power supply.

What is a good place to start as far as getting compatible MOBO and other components for this ancient relic?
