Hello.

I recently built a new computer and have learned of(within the past few weeks) the Haswell's higher temps than older gens.

My CPU idles at about 26-30C, while under load it goes to about 40-48C while I'm on Dark Souls and about 46-56C while on FFXIV:ARR. I'm using the stock heat sink, but I'm worried about it burning out my CPU or causing some other sort of damage and have been considering buying a better heat sink for it.

Are these temps safe/normal and I'm just paranoid, or is it warranted?

Thanks for reading.

That is actually low for temps, if you hit 60C that is warm, 70 is worry some, 80-90+ is dangerous. So even with that stock cooler that is exceptionally good. If you plan to OC get an aftermarket cooler, if not, that stock fan is actually doing well, surprisingly.

Even if it sometimes jumps to 60-61c in high density areas with a lot of models/going on?

I just don't want to hurt my new CPU if I could just purchase a new cooler to help with the heat issues of Haswell, but if it's really okay for it to sit at 60-61c for a 5-10 minutes then I can probably live with it.

It is ok, but its not recommended, I would look into aftermarket, but for the moment it is safe.

The i5 3570 is rated for internal case temperatures of 72.72 degrees centigrade. You can check Intel's site for more details. You have nothing to worry about with the temperatures you are reporting.
