Dvi to hdmi adapter audio

Hi all,
Im trying to get audio from my computer to play on a hd tv.
I have tried to use a hdmi cable from my graphics card (nvidia gts250) to my tv but there is no sound (i tried changing playback settings)
Now im trying to use a dvi cord from my computer to a dvi to hdmi adapter then plugged into hdmi port on my tv and i have an aux cable for sound. This is also not working i have also tried an spdif cord in place of the aux nothing will work .

Hi, The HDMI should work, unless there's a cable issue (is it 1.3 or higher?).
For DVI + analog/digital sound to HDMI there are converters (ex http://sewelldirect.com/DVI-and-SPDIF-Audio-to-HDMI-Converter.asp ), but I would firstly check the HDMI cable.
Try testing it at a friend or a local shop.
It might also be a graphics card issue (not providing sound through HDMI).

How can i tell if it is 1.3 or higher? If it is a problem with my graphics card sending audio how can i fix this? Or would i just buy a new graphics card?

Check in Device manager, under Sound. What devices are listed there?

listed under sound, video and game controllers is, "High Definition Audio Device"

did some more research and discovered that i need an internal spdif connector from my motherboard to my graphics card is this correct? thanks for all your help
