My computer randomly freezes (clean install 1 day ago) when I start it. when it freezes I power down the computer and when I try to boot it up again it is a black screen. I end up clearing my CMOS for it to work again. I did not over clock or anything.

Motherboard: ASUS ROG Crosshair V Formula Z

CPU: AMD FX-8350 8-Core Unlocked
RAM: 8GB Corsair + 1GB Patriot Mem
Video: Old Card, 8800GTS Nvidia

Use only the 8GB corsair memory. Take off the 1GB patriot memory, they are incompatible. Your computer gets confused and shuts down. Remove the extra 1 GB and you should be fine.

Cheers!

You just solved all my problems. It has been 4 weeks without a computer and I even reseated my whole computer. I was about to run off to the store for a new video card! Thank you so much. I am crying because it was that simple of a task.

It still freezes from time to time. It's not as frequent as before. Could it be my Graphics or The Temp of my CPU?
maybe from the Hard Drive? the hard drive is old and makes sounds sometimes. I did not change anything before this problem caused, I was just on Youtube and it froze on me.

Hard Drive is about 3-5 Years Old, 320GB 7200RPM

CPU- AMD Vishera FX-8350 8-Core Unlocked 4.0GHz Running at 43C when doing nothing, Runs at 52C when video editing
Graphics Nvidia 8800GTS (How do i tell the temp on this thing?)
I cleaned it recently ^
Motheboard Temp: 35C (ASUS ROG Crosshair V formula Z)

You can get GPUz to tell the temperature of your Video Card. If it is overheating, your computer might freeze from time to time. You should probably just get a new GPU soon to avoid any problems that old cards can cause.
Old HDD's are known to be a source of problems late in their lives. Maybe you should change it if problems continue after getting a new GPU.

Cheers :)
