I am going to buy either a radeon hd 7850 or 7870, but the problem is I don't know if my cpu can handle this. My cpu is Amd Phenom 9650 Quad-core 2.3 GHz.
My ram is 4Gb. Overclocking my cpu is probably not an option, because the temperatures are already quite high. I hope someone can help me.

I have an ATI Radeon Hd 4350. It is a very old gpu and i really want to upgrade it. I can also upgrade my cpu, but the motherboard ( pegatron narra 5) has an am2+ socket and most new Cpu's don't support that. The motherboard has no bios update, so i can't upgrade to am3. I am going to start looking for a good am2+ cpu that fits in my motherboard and then i can hopefully use the 7850/7870 at its full potential.

If you're going to upgrade to a 7850/7870, you're going to have to upgrade your mobo, cpu, and ram. Otherwise, you're creating a significant bottleneck.

Another option is to upgrade to a HD 6670 for $70 and call it good.

I might go for a little lower gpu then. Can you recommend me a gpu that would cause no bottleneck with my other pc parts? The Hd 6670 is okay, but do you think my pc can handle more? Thanks
