I bought a MSI n9600gt graphics card and i have a Gateway DX4870-UB318 with all the normal parts link here: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Desktop+-+8GB+Memory+-+1TB+...

And i was wondering how powerful the graphics card is and will i need to buy a new PSU or can i use the one i have. Also can i run skyrim and other games on this card?
Thanks,

You would be able to run Skyrim and other games well. You may want to look into a better power supply though, just in case.

Also, if you bought the card used (which I am assuming you did since it is old) make sure to clean out the dust inside of it before you use it.

What do you mean by "just in case"? Do you think my PSU won't be enough?

The power supply in your computer could run the card, yes, but I always like to comment on the forums with the peace of mind that they wont come back and say that their computer blew up because of something we said.

I dont remember how much power the 9600GT uses off the top of my head, but I dont think its too much.

Its just that HP power supplies were designed to not support upgrades. They are generally not well built. Therefore, I dont generally trust them for other than running an HP with the stock stuff.

Personally, I would yes. It requires a power adapter from the power supply anyway, which your current one does not have.

It takes the power from the motherboard itself so I think it's safe to run and wait to get the new PSU what do you think

Personally, I would get a new power supply, but its totally up to you. This card does not take all its power from the motherboard. If you look at the rear of the card under the fan, there is a black connector. This requires a 6-pin PCI-e connector from the powers supply.
