Speedfan: Fan works for a few seconds than turns off.

I have been using Speedfan for a long time, and it's been going good. But now, suddenly, when I set it to an amount like 100%, it would work for like 4 seconds, then the fan would turn off. Speedfan is still open and it still says 100%, but the fan is low. When I click it down to 95%, it works for 4 seconds. Whatever the percentage I apply it to, it works for 4 seconds then goes off. I've tried reinstalling it and only enabling the Dell Support. I've tried tweaking with the configuration. Nothing works. Any help?

Dell XPS L502x
RAM: 8GB
GPU: Nvidia Geforce 540m
CPU: 2nd Gen core i7

Anyone? My laptop only says on for 1 hour then overheats. I'm even using a cooling pad.
