Did unlocking (and then disabling) faulty cores in my Phenom II Processor mess up my CPU?

About a day ago I unlocked the extra cores on my AMD Phenom II processor. They were faulty and just made the computer crash, so I disabled them again. Everything was working fine, but just a bit ago my computer started running very slow. The Task Manager says that the CPU is only running between 0 and 5%. Can anyone tell me what happened, and how to fix it?

(I already did a hard drive diagnostic, and everything checked out)

  1. Try Memtest and see if it bugged up your memory playing around with the cores, otherwise I would try to re-install the OS. Make a backup of all your data, not operating system files, that you want to keep if you do re-install.
