old vista harddrive

I have a old hd from my laptop which was running vista and have been attempting to recover the data with the ultra hd adapter to no avail. The computer will see the bridge device and also identify the hd but it does not assign a drive letter and i can't access it. If any one can help it will be a great help.

can you describe how you are attempting to do this? what computer is it connecting to, how you are connecting it, what operating system you are using... things like that
