Hi

Need some help with SLI or CFX for 6 to 8 monitors at 2560x1440 each or 7680x2880 (with 6 monitors) or 10240x2880 (with 8 monitors.)

The system is ...

ASUS P9X79E WS
3930k
64G 2133
2x256 SSD
Corsair 1200

Currently, I am using an AMD W600 but would like better performance. I have already tried 770 2G quad and 7950 3G quad, and neither is sufficient. The 4th card actually reduces performance from 3 ways in either SLI or CFX when bench-marking with 1 monitor only.

With SLI or CFX, a couple MSTs can run 6 monitors but not 8. And if I just connect the monitors to individual cards, then I am not taking advantage of the SLI or CFX capabilities.

2 or 3 780s vs 7990s is still around $1000 cheaper than a single W9000.

Thanks in advance for your help.

If you could wait 2 months AMD is said to be launching their Hawaii cards 8000 series I guess, hear they are very good, Nvidia will release the 790 (2xGK110) about the same time to compete or maybe unlocked GK110 in Titan Ultra.

In nearly all situations, 2x7990's in quad CFX will crush dual 780s. Not sure what ROI you get with a third 780 though.
IIRC, AMD recently released a fix for their long suffering Frame Latency issues...cant validate personally though.

Yes, they did with frame pacing.

2x7990's = 4x7970 GHz.

2x7990s > 2x780s
