Changed motherboard about a week ago to an asus p8z68 v pro/gen3 and all was working fine. Today however while playing Rome II for a few hours the game crashed to the desktop which I presumed was due to it being a new release a few minutes later after rebooting the game a loud screeching noise started coming through the speakers just before it shut itself down. Now the pc won't start, the cpu led is on constantly and the computers fans spin up but nothing is displayed on screen

What should I do?

Try starting the board outside the case, only CPU and CPU fan installed. See if still red CPU led.

If possible I would like to leave that as a last resort after using a spare psu to eliminate that which didn't fix the proble but has resulted in the VGA led no being on and the cpu led has gone off still no boot or display though. Any ideas.

Is the monitor connected to the onboard (graphics card removed)?

Yes hdmi to onboard and to gpu when connected, with everything connected ie ram and gpu the cpu light shows, with just the gpu and one stick of ram any stick the mem OK light shows and with no gpu and one stick of ram VGA light shows. All the time the monitor remains blank

What about with only CPU and CPU fan (inside the case)?
