Hello. I have a really fast computer at home. I5 processor 16gigs of ram. I use hd tune on my hard drive and noticed its getting between 40-61 mb/s. My work compuer gets faster speeds up to 71 mbps. I have a ASRock Z77 Extreme4 ATX Intel Motherboard. I have it plugged into the intel sata3 drive like I'm supposed to. Any info on this would be appreciated because that hard drive is a major bottleneck. Windows rates my drive 5.3 and the work computer at 5.5. i have no idea why my work computer would have a faster hard drive.

It would be helpful if you posted the make/model of your hard drive. Offhand, make sure you have your chipset drivers installed and make sure no devices have a yellow exclamation point next to them in your device manager. I have much older drives that get 5.6 on my system.

As soon as I get home (about an hour) I'll get u the make and model of the hard drive. Also all drivers are updated. I'll reinstall the chipset just to make sure. Thank you for your help.

Its a real old drive that doesn't use PMR which boosted drive performance. 60.5 is about right where that drive runs peak. They were a proven design and lasted many years.

If you want better performance you need a newer drive. If you're surviving on 120gb's then your the perfect candidate for a 120/128gb ssd if you're willing to spend the money.

It can. You may have a look to this and get the fast performing hard drive. I have seen so many and they are working really very well.
