OK so in a month or two I'm going to build a budget gaming rig, but for now I'm stuck with half the money needed for it. I'm now using this old PC with a Pentium 4 531 3.0GHZ with hyper-threading technology enabled, 1GB RAM and a GeForce 7300 LE integrated chip. I tried playing Modern Warfare 1 on this system and it ran great on medium graphics and at resoluton of 800x600. I thought this was the best this old rig could offer, until I tried Modern Warfare 2 and it also ran great on the same resolution and even high texture resolution setting.
I don't really understand how seperate components connect with each other, but my motherboard is a Foxconn 6497MB which supports 2GB of RAM maximum. So my question is can I put a Radeon HD 6770 (which I will use for my new configuration) and replace the 1GB ram with a 2GB stick? I know the processor is going to be a bottleneck, but shouldn't there however be a significant performance increase considering the HD 6770 is way way better than the 7300 LE and the addition of another GB of RAM? Is it worth it doing this or should I just stick with what I have and wait until I have the money to build my new system at once? oh and also my monitor's max resolution is 1280x1024 and my PSU is a 500watt
i need opinions please :)))

Don't bump posts. - G

A Pentium 4 is now about 7 - 8 years old now so it will play games really sluggishly. I would definitely suggest if you're going to upgrade to buy a new PSU, motherboard, GPU, CPU, and RAM. You can for sure reuse your hard drive(s), case, and optical drive to cut costs. A Radeon 6770 should work, but you might be due for a full upgrade.

Thanks for the answer g-unit. Yeah I know the P4 is very outdated, but what I meant was that I am indeed going to build a whole new PC, but for now I have only got half the money needed, so I thought instead of waiting I could buy a graphics card and RAM and put them in my current system with the idea it could improve the performance. So my question is if the performance of my PC would increase if I replace the GeForce 7300 LE with a HD 6770 and turn the 1GB RAM into 2GB. Even though the CPU will be a bottleneck, a Pentium 4 HT combined with a HD 6770 is better than a Pentium 4 HT with a 7300 LE, right? correct me if im wrong please

As long as your motherboard has an x16 PCI-e slot, and that you have an up to date, rated PSU that matches the wattage and voltage requirements, you should be fine. Make sure that your motherboard has the latest BIOS available before you install your card.

GIGABYTE 78LMT-S2, AMD 760G, DDR III 1333+ (O.C.)/1066/800, VGA, RAID, GLAN, AM3+
AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 965, 3.40GHz, 8MB, BOX, AM3, Black Edition
ADATA 2 x 2GB DDR III 1600
SEAGATE 500GB 7200 16MB SATA III
SAPPHIRE 1024MB HD6770 DDR 5 HDMI PCI-E /BULK/
COOLER MASTER ELITE 371 BLACK, w/o PSU
FORTRON HE-500, 500W
SONY DVD-RW AD-7280S, SATA, Black

It's a cheap gaming build for 390 euro, i cant afford more than that. Is it decent enough?
