Edit-the hd7990 is 300$ cheaper which makes it much more more attractive than a gtx780.
There's no doubt that the rig with Hd7990 is far better and much more worth the money.

1080p gaming. Only If you are planning on going multi monitor soon then you might want to reconsider the gfx choices.

Staying at 1080p then both cards will give very good gaming performance. At this resolution, they might be considered overpowered for some games (not for others). But they'll give you some 'future proofing'. You do have many very good and much cheaper options, options which could be SLI's of XFire'd later.

Toms are currently looking into the latest drivers for the 7990 (vs 690) so you might want to check out:

Could you stretch to include an SSD (e.g. via cheaper gfx card)? These make the desktop/windows experience very significant smoother and faster, and, any games/apps stored on them will load much faster. Only a few of the many benefits.

I am pretty sure that everyone has checked out the latest article.
The OP wants to spend 700$ for the 7990,it's good and he would be future-proofed.
To the OP,if u intend to play only on one monitor, then i would recommend you to save some money and get a hd7970.
the hd7990 would be a overkill for a single 1080p monitor. i agree with mesab66.
If you intend to game on two monitors in future then get the hd7990 but beware of the issue that 7990 faces on dual monitor.
Frame pacing tech currently has not reached on dual monitors as reviewed by the article.

thank you sourodip and mesab66 for your very informative and helpful reply. I plan on going with 7970 so that I could add SSD. Thanks guys!
Last question, If I add a solid state drive and I have an HDD, where should I install the games? and How do I make the SSD the main drive?

BTW, I don't plan on using 2 monitors. 1080p should suffice to me. I am waiting for the release of games such as the witcher 3 and dragon age inquisition next year.

good, then a hd7970 would be enough. You can install your games on the SSD and the windows also for quick booting.well,u cannot install all games and windows on a SSD.what u can do is boot using the SSD and install 2-3 games and play.SSD gives better performance than HDD. However,u can also install the games on your HDD.
