Hi, I've recently moved to a new location and my current internet set up is less than perfect. I've got a wireless connection using a router/modem, of which I have not heard great things as far as wireless connectivity goes. I'm pretty sure it's a fairly popular item, though it may be a bit outdated. Here it is: http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-SURFboard-Gateway-SBG6580-Wireless/dp/B0040IUI46

This is currently installed one floor below where I've got my computer set up, and the wireless connection is pretty terrible. I'm an avid gamer, and my connection was alright when first moved here, but a combination of having a pretty old USB wireless card, and the fact that the router/modem seems to be less than perfect for mid-long range connections, my connection won't let me play online mulitplayer games without having majour issues (disconnections, ping fluctuating sporadically and often reaching over 1k). Now, I've pretty much ruled out using any range extender, so I'm probably going to be buying a long Ethernet cable to run from the router/modem to my room upstairs. Now, before I go ahead and pull the trigger on any cable of this length, I wanted some confirmation that A) I've got my ideas straight and this is what I should be doing, and B) I'd be buying the right cable. I've done an estimated measurement in my head and it seems as though it would be somewhere between 35 and 40 feet needed, so a 50 foot cable should be more than plenty. Which of thes following cables would be best, if any?

Looking back on it now, it looks like the only difference between any of them is between the first one listed, and all the others are essentially the same. Would the 30 AWG be better than the 24? Also, if possible, could someone explain what AWG means and how the different numbers would affect me?

Thanks in advance!

I'll be honest, I'm not sure what's going on with it right now. The modem was installed about a month ago so I would assume it's up to date. Having said that, it iall controlled by my ISP. There was not internet at this location before this was installed about a month ago, so I wouldn't need to have my ISP reset the modem (unless I'm just misunderstanding what you're saying). This is my current adapter: http://www.dlink.com/ca/en/home-solutions/connect/adapters/dwa-140-wireless-n-usb-adapter
It says it's 300MBPS so I would assume that would be fine. I'm paying for 40 down and 6 up, and I just ran a speed test, which told me I had 26 down and 5.9 up, so it seems like that's not running too poorly.
