old laptop hard drive not seen.

how do i get my new laptop to see my old HITACHI hard drive. it sees it but wont open it. help!

Is It assigned a drive letter is disk management (run diskmgmt.msc) ? If not assign it one.
Is it telling you that you dont have authority to access the device? You may need to take ownership.
Was the drive encrypted? You will need the encryption software and the password/key.
