Computer won't boot after adding new hard drive

I recently built a computer for the first time, and though it took time, it worked. I got windows 8 on it, and had been using it for a few days with no problems.

Until now, after decided to add a new hard drive, a WD caviar green 2tb from 2011.

Since the the OS failed to recognise it I was advised to check if the BIOS recognized it - and it did. When I tried to start the computer again afterwards, I only get through the POST, after which I only get a black screen with a blinking "_"

I've checked the boot order - my ssd where I installed the OS is still first.

But no matter what - even removing the new Hdd completely - nothing changes.

I've already read some threads on this, but none specific to my problem, so I'd be thankful for any help.

Best regards
