Hi there, sorry if this appears twice - had a crash.

I'm a sound card and computer n00b so pls help!

I recently bought a Genius GX Gaming SW-G2.1 3000 speaker system for my gaming PC. Prettypleased with it, but sometimes sound is distorted, particulaly the bass. I think it may be because I am using the onboard sound and now I can hear the quality limits better through the amplified speakers.

I was going to get a creative Z card, but I only have a PCI slot available and they don't seem to do z cards in PCI (unless I am just being thick?).

The motherboard is an asus P7P55-M. The PCIe-16 slot has my graphics card in it - a GTX 460. This is a double size card so also blocks one o the PCIe-1 slots :(. The remaining PCIe-1 slot has my wireless card in it.

So questions are:
1) will sound card improve my setup? I don't think i need an amp because the Genius 3000 comes with an amp (I think its an amp? its described as a controller in the manual, but it powers the sub right?)
2) can i get a decent PCI sound card and if so which one for £70 equivalent t the creative z card i going to get?
3) would i be better off getting a PCI wireless card to free up the PCIe-1 slot for the coundcard?

thanks! CF

i have heard some iffy things about those speakers while gaming, hopefully they work well for you.

check out the asus sound cards, they are all really good, even the $30 one is worth the money.
