How to activate USB on OLD Toshiba Satellite 2100 laptop

Have pics and document files [apprx 1GB] I need to retrieve from very old computer, into my newer computer. But the USB port on the laptop does not work. And I do not have a burner on my CD drive. Any ideas, or how to activate the USB port>? Thx.

What OS is installed on the old laptop? Not all have usb support.

You can also just take out the hard drive and put it into an external enclosure. You probably would need one for an ATA drive from an old system.
