CPU Type Specification

Hello, I was just looking into building another computer, and I've got a question.

Does "cpu type" specification mean up to that set.
say it specifies 4th generation intel (i5,i7), does that mean it supports everything (making sure the socket is correct) in previous years, like the i3-4130.

I assume you are referring to a motherboard?

Anymore, just about every generation is on a different socket, so when it says 4th gen, it means 4th gen. No others will work in an 1150 socket if that's what you're asking
