I am building a gaming PC with my teenage son as a family project. We have never done this before. He has been saving up $$ from his job and put together a parts list, but before we start ordering components, I would welcome some feedback…

1) Are we missing anything?
2) Will these components all work together?
3) Is any of this overkill? Alternate (cheaper?) suggestions appreciated!
4) What’s the best way to add WiFi capability- USB adapter? Different motherboard?

Here’s what we have on the list:
Case- Thermaltake Chaser MK-1 VN300M1W2N ($119 MicroCenter w/rebate)
CPU- Core i7 3770K 3.5GHz Socket LGA 1155 Boxed Processor Intel HD Graphics 4000 ($249 MicroCenter)
Motherboard- Asus Sabertooth Z77 LGA 1155 Intel HDMI SATA 6GB/s USB 3.0 ATX ($233 Newegg)
Graphics- ASUS GTX650TI-O-1GD5 GeForce GTX 650 Ti 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready ($129 Newegg w/rebate)
RAM- Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 1600 MHz (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory ($143 Amazon)
Hard Drive- Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" ($70 Newegg)
Optical Drive- LG 24X DVD Burner - Bare Drive Black SATA Model GH24NS95 – OEM M-Disc Compatible ($16 MicroCenter) *OK- What is a “Bare Drive”?
Operating System- Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit - OEM DVD ($91 Amazon)
Power Supply- Corsair HX Series HX750 750 Watt ATX 12V Modular ($119 MicroCenter w/rebate)
Monitor- Benq RL2450HT 24” LED Pro Gaming Monitor ($185 Amazon)

Trying to do something cool with my son- thanks for any help you can offer!

I would suggest that use the i5 3570k than the i7. And use that excess cash on the graphics card.

For the graphics card. Either go a Radeon 7970 or a GTX 770.

For gaming a powerful graphics card is needed.

And 16 GB of Ram is overkill. An 8 GB is enough.

And i suggest getting an SSD for Boot Drive and important applications (so you will have faster boot times. And some apps will load faster).

And Also buy an aftermarket CPU Cooler. Because you can overclock that cpu. And the stock cpu cooler cannot cool it enough if u overclock that cpu.
A Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO would be good.
