3GB of RAM in standby causing lag in-game.

So I recently made a post about my freezing issue, with little response. But I figured out that my RAM was the problem. I did a memtest, with no errors. But in the window where I monitor my resources, under the tab memory, it says 3-4GB is being used, and 3GB in standby, leaving me with 1GB when I'm playing games. So closing down alot of processes help against my freezing problem in-game. But I'd like to figure out how I could make this space in my memory to go from standby to free. Could anyone help me with that? Thanks. And by the way, if you didn't figure it out - I have 8GB RAM.
