You just need a CPU that fits the MOBO a 1155 socket the 2600k fits that socket, so yes it does work.
Edit: after reaserching a bit, i see that the 2600k (from the website) as an expansion option of PCi express revision of 2.0 (is this related to GPU, im not really sure).

*quote from site*
Expansion Options
PCI Express Revision 2.0
Max # of PCI Express Lanes 16

The GPU still works, any 3.0 will work on a 2.0 slot, but i guess that the CPU or mobo will not take full advantage of it?!. I myself dont know much about this.
I guess i need more reaserch on this, (altough i garantee that the 3.0 gpu works on a 2.0 socket)

I wonder how much of a diference 3.0 is from 2.0 anyway.
I'm quite curious of the 3.0 vs 2.0 now.

No, I have my rig already working for 2 years now, but I'm moving from 570 to 780 gpu.
I'm just wondering if there will be any issue with my cpu, as that guy in link said u need ivy bridge cpu for making 3,0 gpu work on 2.0 mobo...

Oh no, there will be no issues, as someone in that post said, PCI3.0 will work on a 2.0 witout any issues.
edit: my 650ti is a 3.0card but the mobo is only 2.0 and it works no problem :D
