Currently, I have 3 monitors connected to a Radeon HD 6850 Card
1 DVI
1 VGA via DVI-VGA adapter
1 VGA Via Display port (With Active DP-VGA adapter)

The Card has an HDMI Port Free - will I be able to connect an HDMI monitor here and have 4 active displays?

why dont you just use a splitter on your DVI to run two monitors and then use the HDMI and Display port to run the other two? and if you dont have DP on your monitor just get a DP to DVI adaptor

you would need atleast 2GB+ DDR5 on your graphics card for everything to run smoothly

From other research, A Dvi spiltter will just mirror the displays, not set two independent monitors. Am I incorrect?

that is technically correct however i've used a splitter before and successfully managed to run two monitors. if you dont trust the splitter method, the way you've set it up should be fine. however you do realise the two DVI monitors will have a different resolution to the other two?
