Is i5 4670K OC'd using only BCLK strap viable?

I read through the Haswell OC'ing guide, and the emphasis was clearly on core speed.

However, I found that simply adjusting the BCLK Strap to 125 and leaving everything else alone resulted in a rock-stable 4.5ghz @ 1.277v

I haven't seen anyone else mention doing this, nor was it mentioned in the guide, so I'm a bit concerned that I'm fraking something up by doing this.

OC'ing by adjusting the CPU strap will give the same result as adjusting the core multiplier. You can get 4.5 by using 45 X 100 or 36 X 125. It's all the same result.

Thank you for this reply.

Changing one or two settings in the BIOS and getting a 24/7 4.5ghz OC seemed too quick and easy to be true. Glad to hear it isn't!

You're quite welcome!

Sometimes it is the simple solutions that give the best results.

Good luck with your OC!
