You didn’t specify which version of Windows XP you’re using. For the sake of explaining, I’ll touch first on Windows XP Home Edition first and then Windows XP Professional.

While Windows XP Professional offers more flexibility in the types of backup devices it supports and also security, some of the same backup features remain the same. These include the types of backups you can specify, such as Normal, Incremental and Differential. With that said, the backup utility in Windows XP Professional offers many more advanced options.
