Hi all. I have a big problem with my AMD computer at the moment, being that sound is only playable through HDMI. This is regardless of rookie mistakes like not setting headphones or speakers to be a default device in the sound panel, having the device turned down in the mixer or even plugging the device directly into the motherboard in the back panel.

When the device is plugged in, it is recognized by windows, the drivers are correctly installed for the device and most other hardware. My sound is provided through my AMD Radeon HD 7850 graphics card.

Prior to this problem occurring, I had many hard drive issues, but with a previous and now disposed of hard drive. The problem has occurred ever since I installed Windows 8 onto my new hard drive. In addition the this, I had upgraded my monitor (useless information really, but information none the less).

The IT specialist at my school had been over this problem with me for about two hours in total conversation over the phone trying many different things, with certain settings, but to no avail.

Basically my problem is that the device is recognized, but regardless of simple settings associated with sound on Windows 8, will not play sound at all; only a faint annoying buzz.

I would certainly be very grateful for some help as I am a PC gamer and played with my friends very often before this problem, talking over skype etc...

Thanks very much guys. As I said before, help would be much appreciated.

^^ Yeah I built it, and as I said earlier I had changed the default devices.
