Would XFX give me a 7970 GHZ edition?

Okay, that title seems a bit misleading. I got an XFX Double D Radeon 7970. This thing started failing me after a few months (tons of artifacts in games.) Now I originally planned to sell this thing after getting an RMA, but I don't think I could get much for it on E-bay. I've heard people saying that XFX sometimes gave them better GPUs if they asked for them. Does this mean I could ask them for their GHZ model? If not, would I at least be able to get a non voltage locked model?

You could probably send it in, and ask for the upgrade. You would most likely have to pay the upgrade difference, but they should honor that. I know Nvidia with EVGA does so, and have heard of XFX doing that too.

Could I flash the bios to a ghz one instead, or should I just do some oc'eing?

I would see if they can replace it, if they will, it would be worth it, if not, you can just OC to about the same performance.
