Console controllers for windows 8?

Hi, i have i windows 8 desktop computer and i would like to use a console controller on it. I have a ps3 controller, but if its not possible to use that im willing to buy a xbox controller, as long as i can use it on my windows 8 computer. I have read that you shouldnt use ps3 controllers on a pc because only 1 of the analog sticks will work. is this true? I will use the controller for driving games such as trials evolution and need for speed, and games like assassins creed, and skyrim. I will not use it for fps games or mmo's. I will be using the controller on steam and on games that i have used a disk for. Is there a speciall progam i have to download to use a controller or is there a program intergrated with windows 8? On a pc you can either press a button or not. A controller has much more sensitivity. On a controller you can tilt the analog stick, so you can walk in a game where as if you were using a keyboard you would only be able to run. And im wonderiong if you ill be able to use the ps4 and xbox one controler when they release? Thanks in advance. Any awnser helps

Oh, and one other thing. sorry for this nobbish question but i need to know. What is the z- and x- axis on a controller? is it the analog sticks? in that case which is z and which is x? And wath is z-rotation?

A PlayStation 3 controller does in fact work perfectly well on a PC. You need to download and install MotionJoy software to make it work.

If you buy a cheap bluetooth dongle you can use the controller without a USB cable.

After you install the program go to Driver Manager and click install all. Once that is complete go to Profiles and use "Xinput-Default," minimize the program, and you're set.

You will of course need to use a USB cable unless you have a Bluetooth dongle.

Ok, i have searched a bit on the net and i have read a lot of commonets on motionjoy and people sais that it will make popup windows on your web browser nd stuff. is this true? I have also noticed that, on windows 8, if you drag the mouse to the upper right corner of the screen and press search, and then serch for usb and click settings, the option configure usb-gaming controll. What is this and does it work?

It has some ads on it to make make money via advertisement, just don't click them.

That is just to configure a gaming controller in settings.
