HI guys. I’m about to upgrade my old system. Asus 5pk intel e6750 @3.4 and radeon 5770 antec 900 . I’m really torn apart because I’m on budget grrr. I’m afraid i can’t afford i5 3570k ( because there is no point in buying this pcu if you don’t overclock and to overclock I would need a good motherboard which will be expensive ) So I thinking of fx6300 or i5-3350P. i5-3350P is not overclockable so I can get away with cheap motherboard. Fx6300 I would definitely overklock but again that require a good mother board ( I was thinking this Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2.0) . Could someone please tell me ( or where to luck at ) how overckolcked fx 6300 comapare to i5-3350p and i3570k in gaming .
PS in month or 2 I can spend around £150 ( $239.76) on gpu
I hope that will create balanced gaming machine.
( I have medium PSU corsair cx600m and would go for 8 gb of ram )
Thanks in advance happy toms hardware reader

The 3350P is only 100MHz shy of an i5-3470, which is a lot faster than an FX6300 in many games. It can actually OC to 3.7GHz with a Z77 board and uses a fraction of the power:-

An FX-8350 is more comparable to i5's - in many games an FX6300 is often only nearer to i3's:-

Another option for a budget build are the Haswell i3's which are around 10% faster than the FX-6300 in even multi-threaded games (eg, Metro Last Last & Crysis 3.

Hi. I have an FX6300, and i3 3240 and just sold a cpu with a i5 3470, all had HD7850 2gb cards. When it comes to real life performance on BF3, Crysis 3, Skyrim, GTA 4 and say witcher 2 (my most played games) the average frame rates were pretty much the same with all 3 cpu's but the noticable difference was the minimum rate and how stable the framerate was delivered. The i5 by far has the best physics processing capabilities (scoring a 3dmark11 physics score in the mid 20's compared to the fx6300 at around 17, and the i3 around 13) but these effects will only come in to play if the game is multi-thread optimized. The i3 did however struggle with GTA 4 and Crysis 3 drastically compared to the FX/i5

A good example scenario: I have ran BF3 on ultra settings on my FX6300/7850 and the frame rates where generally around 28-40 on average. I used my friends i7 4770 with my 7850 and the frame rates were only increased in the margin of 3-4 frames in some areas (obviously to the i7) but there was still times the FX beat the i7 machine for fps (albeit for a millisecond) so the conclusion is most games are hindered by the Graphics card as long as you have a relatively good cpu.

The FX can be overclocked easily but still struggles to meet the stock i5 in pure benchmark power, even at 4.5ghz. The i5's architecture is obviosly a few rungs up the ladder, but here in Australia there is over $100 difference in the price of these processors so value for money is a great factor to include.

Even though the i5 has much more physical processing power, the results in 90% of games are pretty much within 3-5fps at the max compared to the FX. Its really a personal preference with the cpu, and the graphics card will play more of a part in your result for gaming.

The i5 system with mobo will roughly be $120 more without graphics unit, and having a FX6300 with a 7970OC VS an i5 3350 and 7850/70 i would take the FX6300@4.5ghz/7970 anyday. The i5 however has a lot better single thread performance (AMD;s weakness) and the i5 will be considerably faster for most everyday single threaded applications, as well as having four true cores instead of 3 cores and 6 threads like the FX.

I hope i haven't rambled too much. Good luck with your build mate and happy gaming.

Don't rule out the i5-4570. I just built my first gaming rig in 8 years with this CPU and it certainly delivers. If you're not planning to OC, like me, then you can save by going with an H87 chipset motherboard which still packs a lot of features and value per dollar, save for the OC function.

Friends of mine who have been hard core PC gamers for longer than I all suggested at minimum I go with an i5. I can't speak for the AMD counter parts, but I'm sure they deliver adequate performance for less money. I know for sure if you go with an i5 you won't be disappointed. ;)

If you're really tight on the budget, go with the FX-6300 and spend the rest on the GPU.

Hi guys
First of all thank you very much for you response's. I thought that I created this thread from different e-mail account so didn't(see ;) get notification !!
If I would see it I would definitely go for fx6300 ( very similar game performance with 7850 Thank you VincezioVonHook ). But ... I read it after I won an action on ebay :) I'm a happy owner of I5 3570k :)) it cost me £40 pound sterling less that a new one :))
Ok now there is a tricky part . Motherboard ...This cpu has to be oc is a K series after all. any suggestion for motherboard I would do moderate oc nothing extreme what about this one Asus P8Z77-V LX2 Intel Z77 ( I can get for around £50 refurbished from manufacturer that would be $ 86.53 AUD)

Any Z77 chip set motherboard will OC just fine. Stick to brands such as Asus, ASRock, MSI, Gigabyte and you can't really go wrong.

That i5 will eat the FX though when it comes to all data intensive applications and for that price you have a steal. FX6300 has a lot of limitations like its terrible single thread performace (the i5 gets approx 154% single thread performance) but as a budget gaming chip you are laughing. I got my M5a-89 for 55 bucks and my FX6300 for 115 here in Aust so for $170 im eating my happiness off titanium gold plated spoons!

Good luck mate, let us know how she goes
