I have never bought a headset before, but now, as both my microphone and my speakers died in weeks of each other, I feel like it would be a good, convenient choice.
Its use: recording gaming commentary, Skype, team gaming, and music.(therefore mic is rather important as commentary must be clear)
Compatibility: MUST be PC(I don't have a console)
Max price: $60

Any input is welcome!

I will have to HIGHLY recomment this: http://www.amazon.com/Plantronics-GameCom-780-Surround-Headset/dp/B00B1KJK22/ref=sr_1_16?ie=UTF8&qid=1380042303&sr=8-16&keywords=plantronics

I know it is over budget, but i an amazing product for the money. If you really don't want to get that, the I also recommend this: http://www.amazon.com/Plantronics-GameCom-380-Stereo-Headset/dp/B006ZS5AQA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1380042366&sr=8-1&keywords=plantronics+380
Despite it plain look this headset sounds amazing, and the mic is very clear.

I agree with the 780, it's what I'm using right now. definitely worth it.

Also:

I had that for like 3 days before I sent it back. The sound was really really good imo. But it had a short in the left ear, that was my fault for getting a refurb though.

If I had to choose is would go for the Corsair. The Corsair has better build quality, and has more realistic 7.1. It also has a bigger sound driver. The fact that they are discounted makes it a no brainier! Hope this helps.

I have the Corsair 1500's and love them. The directional audio is very good, and they have 50mm drivers, so the distortion at higher volumes is not an issue really. Initially after installing them, they sound too crisp with not enough bass. However, you can easily correct this with the built in equalizer.
