How can I play music off my iPhone through my home theatre system?

Yes. Many ways you can do this depending on the home theater system. Simplest is to use a cable that will connect to the headphone jack and to the ht if it has analog inputs. Some systems have airplay or bluetooth so you can connect wirelessly. You can also use a dock which will keep the phone charged and maybe give you digital audio out for better sound.

Ok thanks a lot for that,it's an oldish pioneer system,I've tried a headphone jack to phone but doesn't seem to work

using a headphone jack 3.5mm to red/white rca jacks?

if you change the input the input you use and have something playing on the device it should work.
