playing films through the t.v via usb stick

i download films and play them on my laptop to make sure they play. Then i drag and drop the film to my usb. When i click on the link on my usb it won't play the film even though its still plugged in to my laptop. So i try it through the t.v and it won't play. I don't understand it coz i have done it before and it was ok but now when i try its not. Can any one plz help

So you are plugging the USB drive directly into the TV? Or are you using a cable to connect the laptop to the TV? If you plugging the drive directly into the TV it could be that your video is in a codec that the TV doesn't understand i.e. MP4, AVI, MKV etc...

I am plugging the usb strait into the tv but i have 3 films on my usb which are avi file. When i try to play more recent avi files they don't play

Did you happen to change the flash drive from fat32 to ntfs or another format? I would just connect the laptop to the TV directly and that way you would avoid any issues. Also not all .avi files are created equal, I don't have a vast knowledge on video codecs and everything that goes into them but I know that there is more than meets the eye.

I am not very good with laptops so i wouldn't know how to change stuff like that. I could of done anything as i was playing around with it. So i think i will take you advice thanks and just do it directly from the laptop to t.v

If your laptop has an hdmi port you would want to use that because it will send sound through where as a vga or s-video port will not.
