hi all

i'm building a new gaming rig and would like some advice regarding the following:
- is it worth it to go the SSD route or do i stick to a regular 3.5" 500gb disk?
- do i have enough cooling given my setup or do i need to do something special?

my goal is to be able to play the latest games at the highest settings on a 20" monitor at 1920x1080 resolution and i need the system to last a good 5-10 years given the amount of money i'll be spending. my current system burned out before the 5 year mark which was disappointing. i need one that will run at top form for a long long time.

Motherboard: MSI Z87-GD65 Gaming
CPU: Intel Core i7 4770k
GPU: MSI N680GTX Twin Frozr
RAM: x2 Kingston Hyper X Memory 8gb (16gb total)
Storage: x2 Intel S335 240gb (highest available from where i'm getting)
PSU: CoolerMaster Silent Pro M850w
Casing: Antec Nine Hundred Two

No system will last 5 years playing max settings. Future proofing is impossible. You build a system for now and see how it lasts.

Get a better quality PSU. Corsair, antec, XFX, Corsair.

If this is just for gaming, get an i5 and 8gb RAM. This way you saved money and will feel less terrible later on spending some money on upgrades based on what matters at that point in thech.

i could replace the PSU with an Antec HCG 900w. do you think there is enough cooling though or should i get additional cooling like a CPU fan?

If you want to overclock the CPU you will need an aftermarket CPU cooler, but if not then no, the stock cooler will be fine.

900w is WAY overkill for this build. 700w would be more than enough..

Not really. Just don't buy anything too overkill as it may turnout to not be used when new games come out. Like i said, an i5 and 8gb RAM are all that is needed to max games for a long time.
