in the next month or so i will have about 400 usd (450 max if i really do need a new psu) for a new build.

current rig is xp sp3, pentium d 820 with radeon xpress200 shared with 2gb g skill ddr2 533, and a 40 gb ide. thats how long its been since my last build. circa 2005.

i do have win 7 pro x64, psu, case, optical drive. i need mobo, cpu (apu or cpu/discrete gpu), ram, hard drive (1tb)

media is more the concern. i do like the games but i still have never had anything decent enough at any time to play modern games. there is a whole list of older games that iw ould like to play through. i could probably be busy with stuff from 2003 to 2009 for the next year at least. i more or less hate most online gaming because people well get so good at it that it gets stupid when you just want to play and shoot people blow stuff. i like the campaigns what not.

i'm leaning towards the a10-6800k (with 2133mhz ram) more for the socket than anything as am3 seems to be on the out but there seems to be an intel alternative that is better with a discrete card/cpu than the apu way.

i've never used an amd, only intel. never even used a pcie card before.

i'd also mention that if a audigy 2 thx card is better than an onboard now. i have a logitech z560 sound system.

not looking for 1080p ultra settings gaming but 1080p video would be more of a necessity. gaming is a bonus. i'd rather put money in a pc than a new console as the consoles usually don't utilize the full potential before being phased out. the steam machine coming out sounds intriguing.

that's not bad. still need a 1tb hard drive worked into the price. from what i gather the fx are being discontinued in favor of the fm2 socket. looking for more future proof.

i had gathered too that 16 gigs of ram is over kill and so is 2gb for a video card. if i need correcting then by all means do.
