Hi Everyone,

Thanks for reading this post, I need help but most of all I need a good GPU to replace my Ati HD 6870 Xfire. I am stuck between either the 7970, 680 or 770?

Which one should I get?
Is it worth spending £50 more to get the 770?
Which one will be beneficial in the long run?

I am interested in playing the following games

Rome 2 total war,
Crysis,
Battlefield 3,
Farcry 3

Thanks for reading.

Best regards,

Well if you can wait, the new R9-2xx series is going to be released which should lower the prices across the board. But if you cant, the GTX770 is basically a GTX680 with some minor improvements. The 7970 would perform on average a little slower than the Nvidia cards, and the the 7970 GHZ would be about the same as the Nvidia cards. The 7970's are cheaper than the 680 and 780 at the moment, so if you don't prefer one company over the others I would save the money and get a 7970. You honestly wont be upset choosing any of those. And yes, your PSU and CPU are fine.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for your reply, I have one question regarding the Ghz Edition and normal version,
In the UK its hard to find the Ghz edition or when I do its too expensive, Am I only looking for a 1000Ghz Core speed or does the memory speed change too?

Is this GPU considered as a Ghz edition:

I have put together FPS from a benchmark of GTX 660 SLI vs GTX 680 and 7970 PLUS review of GTX 770 gigabyte windforce 3x OC.

I used these results in benchmark 1
http://alienbabeltech.com/main/wp-content/uploads/2012/...

I used best of either gtx 680 or 7970 to compare against 660 sli.

I also got results from another review comparing 770 vs 680 and 7970, got also the best of all cards' results.

Hence I came up with this excel sheet and concluded my advice there.

I was actually doing this for myself since I got right now 1 660 and was thinking of either SLIing or buying a 770, I thought it might help people!

The link you provided is not a GHZ. It is an overclocked 7970. The memory is 500 MHz lower than a GHz edition. If you can spend a little extra, the

is a better deal for your money IMO. I have used one of these on a build and it works great. Just remember it takes up 3 slots.

And, as srhnd pointed out, two 660's are a viable option too. They are cheap, quiet, have low power consumption, and have good returns in SLI. The only issue I would see is the with the lower memory bandwidth. This could be an issue in a couple years.
