I have AMD Athlon 2.00 GHz system. Presently XP is installed on it. As our staff attendance machine works only on 98SE, i want to install 98SE on it. Is it possible ?

No, i doubt it since the windows will not support the processor. I am assuming that this processor is a dual core? I have never seen 98se work on anything after a P4 computer (my boss likes his old computers as well).

I just installed Win98SE on a Athlon 2900+ (single core). What surprised me was that I was able to install onto a SATA drive with a FAT32 partition without using any extra drivers. To answer your question (if you haven't already figured it out) is that you will likely succeed if your motherboard has Win98 drivers.

More than 512MB RAM and/or processor clocked >1.5GHz (or so) and you will not be successful. SATA drives are OK only as long as the controller (in BIOS) is set for Legacy/IDE mode.

I have 1 gb of ram installed (2x512) and overclocked the processor to 2.13 ghz (AMD 2900+). The motherboard is a Abit KV7-V and there are no settings in the bios for legacy/ide. The motherboard disk does include Win98 drivers. I just finished finished playing some old games I haven't played in years. It does say that drive C is using MS-DOS compatibility but it still performs very well/great. I pieced together a computer from older parts to see if I could make a Win98 computer for my old games - and it worked.
