how can i fix the Cyclic redundancy check error with a RAW file system

I have an external hard drive which windows shows as Cyclic redundancy error, every time I try to access it. It tells me to format or cancel. When I click cancel, the message appears. Running CHKDSK doesnt help as it shows as a RAW file system. HELPPPPPP
