I have an ASUS PB278Q WQHD (2560 x 1440) monitor, but my tower PC (ZT Core i7 2600) HDMI output can support only up to 1080i (1920 x 1080). I have been looking for a graphics card that offers HDMI output at WQHD. I use the monitor for photo editing only, no game. So, I don't need power and a low cost card should do it. And I thought I found a good one: ATI Radeon HD 5450. BUT! The manufacturer’s site says:

400 Watt or greater power supply recommended.

And my tower PC is equipped with a 350 Watt power supply.

I have been looking for a WQHD graphics card that would not require a power supply with 350 Watt or more, but so far I could not find one.

Q1) If you know one, please let me know.

Q2) What is the danger of using the Radeon HD 5450 on my 350 Watt tower PC? After all it is just a “recommended” configuration, right?

Thanks.

Solution
A HD5450 will run just fine on a 205W PSU. Graphics card manufacturers overstate their requirements in the [often vain] attempt to account for all the liar-labeled PSU-shaped objects out there.
